Every Child Can Learn to Read
Dyslexia can make reading, spelling, and writing more difficult, but with the right instruction, students can make meaningful progress. At LAMI Academy, we provide specialized literacy intervention for children with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. Our lessons are explicit, structured, and designed to meet each student at their current skill level.
How We Help
We use evidence-based Structured Literacy and Orton-Gillingham approaches to teach:
- Phonemic awareness
- Letter sounds and spelling patterns
- Decoding and word reading
- Reading fluency
- Vocabulary and comprehension
- Sentence and paragraph writing
Lessons are taught step by step with plenty of review and practice.
Signs of Dyslexia
A child with dyslexia may:
- Have difficulty sounding out words
- Guess words while reading
- Confuse similar letters or sounds
- Struggle with spelling
- Read slowly or avoid reading
- Have strong ideas but difficulty putting them into writing
Dyslexia is not connected to intelligence. Students with dyslexia can become confident and successful readers when they receive instruction that matches how they learn.

Literacy Intervention Options
At LAMI Academy, we offer structured literacy intervention in both English and French. Our programs are designed to provide explicit, systematic instruction for students with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties.
Morning Literacy Intervention Program
Tuesday & Thursday
8:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Our morning program provides intensive structured literacy instruction during the time of day when many students are at their best for learning. This program is intended to supplement school, not replace it, and focuses on building strong reading, spelling, writing, and decoding skills in a small-group setting.
After-School Intervention Groups
Monday–Thursday
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Our after-school intervention groups provide targeted literacy support for students who require additional instruction outside of school hours. Small group sizes allow for individualized attention while building confidence and essential literacy skills.

Whether your child is just beginning to struggle with reading or has been diagnosed with dyslexia, our evidence-based intervention is tailored to meet their individual learning needs.
Progress Monitoring
Every student begins with a comprehensive literacy assessment to identify their current strengths and areas of need. This initial assessment serves as the foundation for developing an individualized intervention plan.
To monitor growth and ensure instruction remains targeted, formal progress reports are completed:
- Initial Assessment – Before intervention begins
- December Progress Report – Mid-year update
- June Progress Report – End-of-year summary
These reports track progress in key literacy areas, including decoding, spelling, reading fluency, and overall literacy development. Families receive clear information about their child's growth, achievements, and recommendations for continued success.
